A script is often the start of the practical production process for a film or television product and as such is fundamental to a successful result. This unit allows learners to develop an understanding of the script development process and how this can be applied to their own productions. 

While studying this unit learners explore the different methods of producing scripts, techniques for script writing and the fundamentals of good writing such as creating rounded characters and developing coherent plots.

The unit also places script writing in the wider vocational context and explores the commissioning process a writer may encounter in the professional environment and the process of writing.
